Meet and Greet Service

The Meet and Greet Service is a volunteer service that welcomes skilled independent migrants to South Australia.

This unique service, provided by the Government of South Australia, is designed to help you settle quickly into your new home.

The free service is performed by volunteers from various cultural and professional backgrounds, many of whom have been migrants themselves and are sensitive to the needs of new arrivals.

What will you receive?

By registering to use the Meet and Greet Service, you will be appointed a volunteer who will help you with many aspects of your arrival. The service includes:

  • Being met at Adelaide Airport or your place of arrival in Adelaide
  • Transfer to your accommodation in the volunteer’s own vehicle (note: if their vehicle is not large enough for your family and luggage, one taxi can be hired at Immigration SA’s expense, while additional taxis are at your expense)
  • Assistance in settling into your accommodation
  • One accompanied shopping trip to buy food and other essentials, if required, within the first week of arrival
  • Immigration SA On Arrival Information Package
  • Guidance and information about essential tasks that need to be done on arrival, such as:

    • opening a bank account
    • registering with Medicare
    • applying for a Tax File Number
  • Assistance if you want to contact your ethnic community group

Do you have to use the service?

You may have friends in Adelaide who you would prefer to meet you. This is fine, however if you have booked On Arrival Accommodation you should still Contact Immigration SA to make arrangements to receive your keys.

How do you register?

To book this service, you need to:

  • Contact Immigration SA and request the appropriate application form
  • Complete the application form and forward it to Immigration SA. We must receive it at least six weeks before your date of arrival.

We will then book a volunteer and confirm the booking in writing (note: the name and contact details of the volunteer cannot be disclosed prior to arrival).

If the above procedure is not followed or you do not inform Immigration SA of any changes to your arrival details, we cannot guarantee that the service will proceed.
